The above image of the SAMR Model shows how moving towards integrating technology into your teaching can be like going deeper and deeper into the water - you start off by substituting and augmenting technology into your lessons, and then move to modifying and redefining what your students can accomplish through the creative use of technology. The attached video from Common Sense Media has a great explanation of the SAMR model.
TPACK, or the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge Model, is a framework to show how what we know, what we teach, and the role of technology all work together to impact student learning. This model combines pedagogical knowledge (how we teach and engage students in the classroom), content knowledge (what we need to the classroom based on curriculum) and technological knowledge (the proper use of devices in the classroom) - when all three intersect you arrive at the centre of innovative teaching and learning.
Here is another Common Sense Media video explaining TPACK:
It's not overnight that we can become experts in using technology in the classroom in a way that will redefine everything that we are teaching. We have been trying, little by little through the inquiry process, to design more and more activities for our students that transform what we are doing to help create students who are more engaged, more creative, and more readily able to interpret and analyze the world around them.
