Three Types of Questions
Our plan this year is to teach our students that there are three types of questions. All are valid, but different questions are used for different purposes, and their answers are found in different ways.
GOOGLE QUESTIONS
This type of question leads to a one or two word answer that is immediately available on Google, or is a yes or no answer.
EX: How tall is the CN Tower? How far is it from Toronto to New York City? Where do deer live in Canada? What is a glacier?

SEARCH AND FIND QUESTIONS
This type of question can be answered through simple research. The answer that is found is clear and definitive.
EX: What are the structural adaptations of a deer? Why do bears hibernate in the winter? How do melting glaciers affect polar bears?

WICKED WONDER QUESTIONS (aka Inquiry Questions)
Wicked Wonder questions (a cool name some students came up with last year while doing Genius Hour) are questions with no single definitive answer, and can be looked at from different perspectives. These questions look at feelings as well as facts.
EX: Is it right for the government to kill the deer in Dundas Valley based on their behavioural adaptations? How do the people in Northern Canada feel about the way that the government is dealing with the melting glaciers?
