Where to start?! We learned so much at the Bring It Together Conference. It was an amazing learning experience wherein we were able to attend a multitude of workshops suited to our own unique interests and those specific to Inquiry.
The biggest learning I took from the BIT is twofold: different boards are doing very different things around Inquiry and there is no "best" way to tackle it. For example, we all attended a session hosted by a librarian. She was an integral part in the Inquiry Process as far as helping the classroom teacher to plan and supporting student learning throughout. They ran 2 week inquiries and followed a rather prescriptive format. Check out the OESSTA website http://oessta-teachers.ca and look for the Inquiry Process link under Projects. There's a great series of eight short videos that will walk you through their process.
Another teacher from a different board uses inquiry all the time (150 minutes per day--wow!!). On a weekly basis, she uses teacher-guided and student-led inquiries (she calls this free choice inquiry and did it mid week, which garnered the title "I Wonder Wednesdays"). Check out Mrs. Vandermeer's blog at http://scdsbttog.blogspot.ca (oh, the "ttog" part stands for "Teachers Taking Out Grades" which is a whole other discussion that we just scratched the surface of at the BIT) or her website http://inquiry-based.com to see her visionary approach.
